Meet the Author

Rod is a lifelong lover of mythic storytelling, drawn to tales where ordinary people face extraordinary choices. As a Christian, he grew up with the timeless stories of the Bible, and he writes with the hope that his future grandchildren will appreciate those same moral truths through the adventures he creates. Inspired by the way Tolkien wrote for his own children, Rod began The Tales of Myrddin as a legacy project—an enduring story meant to be passed from one generation to the next.

Each tale invites lovers of high fantasy to journey alongside Myrddin through his lifelong adventures. Rod’s passion for classic battles of Good versus Evil shines through every page—and he welcomes you to join Myrddin's world.

My Journey

Every story begins with a spark, and mine was ignited by my mother’s love for poetry. As a boy, I watched her craft verses and felt inspired to do the same. Rhymes came easily to me, and I delighted in presenting her with new poems—moments that made writing feel like a shared joy.

Growing up, I was immersed in the world of J. R. R. Tolkien, which taught me the magic of storytelling and the power of imagination. In middle school, I wrote a short story about a knight, and later, while playing Dungeons & Dragons, I discovered the thrill of shaping narratives when I modified a campaign. I’ll never forget the excitement on my friend’s face when I introduced a new twist. In high school, I had the chance to contribute to a class story in AP English—a quirky mix of voices that reminded me how fun writing could be. We even dressed as characters from The Canterbury Tales for a themed day; I wasn’t much of an archer, but I proudly donned the Yeoman’s attire.

As life grew more complex, writing became a way to process and heal. One of the most meaningful moments came after the tragedy of 9/11, when I wrote a poem that reminded us all that we are heroes—that even in the face of devastation, we could emerge stronger and more united. That piece taught me the power of words to uplift and inspire.

For years, I set writing aside while investing my energy in mentoring young people through programs like Explorers, FIRST Lego League, and FIRST Robotics. Those experiences shaped me in profound ways, but the call to write never truly faded. Now, I return to the page with renewed purpose, eager to share stories that reflect resilience, imagination, and hope.
